Horse Pond Dam loan

NORTH BROOKFIELD - There were two questions on
Monday’s election ballot; each of them were approved by votes
of 168–90. The first, authorizing a debt exclusion from the
constraints of proposition two and one-half, will enable voters
at the May 7 town meeting to approve borrowing $1.24 million to
cover the costs of rebuilding and repairing the dam which holds
the town’s water supply.

Walter blindsided in selectmen reorganization
NORTH BROOKFIELD - “It was the attitude,
the manner in which it was done,” said selectman Mary Walter
after Tuesday’s meeting of the board of selectmen. “I’m
in shock.” Early in the meeting when, according to tradition,
the board reorganizes following an election, selectman Robert Filipkowski
moved that past chairman Jason Petraitis retain that position. Walter,
citing the fact that usually the member next up for election be
granted that opportunity, questioned Filipkowski’s motion.

North Brookfield Savings Bank, Baystate Medical Center to sponsor
blood drive
NORTH BROOKFIELD - North Brookfield Savings Bank
has partnered with Baystate Medical Center to sponsor a blood drive
on Thursday, March 13 from noon – 5 p.m. All blood donations
will be taken inside the Baystate blood vehicle located in the parking
lot at the Palmer branch, 1051 Thorndike St.
